For many displaced and low-income families in Yaoundé, “going to the hospital” isn’t a simple decision. It means cost, distance, and sometimes, being turned away. We wanted to change that.
Earlier this year, Zinvara Medicentre Foundation set up its first physical clinic, a safe, welcoming space where displaced individuals, low-income families, and anyone in need of basic medical care could simply walk in.
To make care sustainable and truly affordable, we introduced a community health membership model. For a small annual fee of $1.7, members gain access to free medical consultations and reduced costs on additional services. It’s a small price for peace of mind, and for many families, it’s the difference between delaying care and getting help early.
The response has been humbling. Within the clinic’s first months, we welcomed over 100 registered beneficiaries and provided more than 100 medical consultations, with steady growth every month. Registered members now receive free consultations, a 20% discount on healthcare costs, and ongoing health education, support that follows them, not just a one-time visit.
Our walk-in clinic isn’t just a building. It’s a promise: that cost should never stand between someone and the care they need.
